Boys like to look at pretty women, and girls like
to look at handsome guys. It's almost universal. HOWEVER,
I love to see this beautiful woman. I'd scream at her,
drool at her, and my heart beats faster around her presence.
Who is this person that sweeps me off my feet?

She is my idol, 唐美雲, an outstanding Taiwanese
Opera actress.

唐美雲's handsome stage appearance, wonderful voice,
and excellent acting skills are what makes her a perfect
actress. And you can get access to her charms yourself
through TV, videotapes, or her stage performances.

To begin with, she has the beautiful appearance that
corresponds to her name. She is beautiful indeed, with her
radiant smile, talking eyes and long hair that makes every
woman envy. However, this attractive young lady usually
portrays the male character on stage. When she stands on
stage, her handsome stage appearance makes the most handsome
man inferior. I've never thought the adjective "handsome"
could apply to a lady, but when she puts on her costume,
handsome seems inadequate. You'd be stunned by the radiance
she sends out. The moment she stands on stage, she IS the
spotlight.

If her handsome appearance already attracts her
audience's eye, then the moment she opens her mouth, all
the audience are captured by heart.

When I read the passage of "明湖居聽書" in high school,
I used to wonder how a person's voice can be so pleasant
that makes every pore so comfortable and cheerful. Not until
I heard 唐美雲's voice did I believe that can be true. Her
voice is like the tranquilizer that puts your mind at total
ease. It's like electricity going through every vein inside
of you. You'd be so touched because every single note is a
drama. Sometimes her voice is like the powerful Yellow River,
strongly and resoundingly pounding on your ears like the river
hitting on the river band. Sometimes it's like the wailing
brook slowly telling her sad story-so sad you can almost hear
your heart broken. Sometimes it's like the waterfalls suddenly
dropping from the top; and sometimes it's like the fountains
surging from the ground. Whenever she sings, the audience are
fascinated by her skills and the deepest emotions in her voice.

Although just listening to her singing is like watching
a drama, you haven't experienced a real drama if you haven't
seen her performance on stage.

Her excellent acting skills bring her audience to laugh
and cry with her. When she act, the character comes to life
and the real 唐美雲 disappears. On the stage she has portrayed
all kinds of characters. She has played the mighty emperor,
a straightforward and decent government official, an illiterate
butcher, and even a penniless street beggar. She has played a
young gentle scholar, and also an ungrateful betrayal husband.
Usually she is the protagonist, but when she is the villain,
she becomes so evil you'd doubt if she were the devil's incarnation.
This instant she is the cynical murderer whose cold glance can
freeze hell over; the next second she becomes the tender lover
whose warm embrace can melt the coldest snow.

So much about her brilliant performance, you must wonder
how you can experience her charms by yourself.

First, the simplest way is to turn on the TV and tune to
三立 at five o'clock Monday through Friday. You can see her
performance at 「廟口歌仔戲」. Or, you can catch up on her past
excellence stage performance by watching videotapes.However,
the real way to experience her wonderful voice and acting skills
is to go to a on-stage performance yourself. It is only by sitting
at the audience section that you can really see what makes her
such a genius actress

I hope you have a rough idea about what makes 唐美雲 such
a terrific performer. Her handsome stage appearance, her wonderful
voice, and unequalled acting skills capture the heart of every
individual that has seen her performance. And you can get access
to her charms yourself by watching TV, videotapes or going to
her stage performances.

An emperor, a beggar, a young scholar, a vicious villain,
or a government official-these are all 唐美雲; but they're
all just a part of her. She is like the beautiful cloud as
her name denotes--changing all the time. However, no matter
which side of her she reveals to us, she continually astounds
her audience with her beauty and talents.
